Orcs Must Die! is one of my favourite PC games of recent years so I was dead keen to see what sort of tweaks and refinements Robot Entertainment could shoehorn into the sequel.
After playing through Diablo III in Normal mode, Nightmare mode and Act 1 in Hell mode (as a Barbarian) I guess I’m as ready as I’ll ever be to review the game…
I’ve got a full Diablo III review in the pipeline and of course I’ve also recently posted my Diablo III first impressions. However all of this talk about the most recent game in the series has got me feeling a little sentimental, so I thought I’d post a retro review of the original Diablo game circa January 1997.
When it came out back in the late 1990s Kingpin heralded a new era where PC gaming aggressively sought to become part of mainstream culture. Its copious use of swearing and gratuitous violence was a sort of anguished plea directed at the masses – “It’s really not nerdy to play PC games any more, look at me I’m cool…”
